Are You to Old To Get A Job?
This feel good story from Australia just goes to prove you’re never to old to get a job. If you put yourself out there and stand out from the crowd – great things can happen.
We’re so ageist in western societies. If you’re in the unfortunate position of job hunting and you’ve hit the big 50 or over, and your up against a 30 year old out to prove himself – well you can pretty much guess the outcome.
Of course young people have just as much need for a job – but when the decision is made purely on an age basis when their skill sets are evenly matched it makes me want to rant !! If employers would only realize mature candidates have one thing the younger ones don’t – and that is life experience, maturity, and no parental ties, kids have usually flown the coop or are young adults themselves.
Since the Global Financial Crisis in 2007/8 pension funds took a huge hit, but for the Baby Boomer population this was particularly devastating. Now delaying retirement or even worse trying to return to the work force after retirement, is devastating enough without having to cope with ageist employers.
Good on this guy for getting out there – bucking the trend – and proving you are NEVER to old to get a job
