Intermittent Fasting

There are many ways to 'Fast'

Intermittent Fasting – a great addition to any diet regime

Intermittent fasting (IF) is a huge trending lifestyle choice, with diets incorporating periods of fasting popping up everywhere. No matter what type of diet you follow Vegan, Mediterranean, Keto you can also reap the massive health benefits of fasting.

Intermittent fasting, should not to be confused with starvation of any sort! If implemented correctly nutritional fasting is a great way to gradually train your body to expect less food, and break free from structured meal times and frequent snacking. It will literally give you back more time in your day.

It can take up to 14 hours for a heavy protein meal to transit through you body.  Additionally, most people eat a meal or snack within a 4 hour window. It’s no surprise that gut health and inflammation are causing major health issues in western countries, as obesity levels are at an all time high and disturbingly so in children

IF is as individual as each person and it may take a little experimentation to find the right fit for you. For some women there is the added challenge of hormonal issues such as changes to their menstrual cycle. This can be overcome by a shorter fasting window or fewer fasting days.

Most women I have interviewed on this topic have had no problems with their menstrual cycle or menopause. Once your body adjusts to IF any minor problems usually disappear.

There are many different types of IF 16/8, alternate day, 5/2, One meal a day (OMAD)
After starting slowly I have worked myself up to 16/8 which I do twice sometimes 3 times a week. For me I finish eating between 6-7pm and fast till 11am the next day. Depending on what I’m doing and how I feel I may push the fasting window till 2pm.

Please check out our other articles on IF where we go into much more detail on some of the more popular types of IF.
